Ludbreg has secured nearly three million euros in grants for the development of green infrastructure. This represents one of the largest investments in the town’s public space in recent years.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Spatial Planning, Construction and State Property Branko Bačić handed the financing contract to Mayor Dubravko Bilić, who spent a full day in Ludbreg. Varaždin County County President Anđelko Stričak joined the visit.
The project encompasses the development of nine public spaces: the Fishing Park, the Forest Alley, the Animal Park, the Avenue of Dreams, the Relax Zone, the Square of Knowledge, the Green Theatre, the Artisan’s Square, and the Square of the Holy Trinity. All will be connected by promenades and green corridors.
"We will develop around 20 hectares of Youth Island as a new green oasis and connect it to the city centre and the heart of Ludbreg. At the same time, we will green the town square and reduce the large concrete surfaces that currently dominate the town centre," Bilić said. He sees the project as an example of how European funds can improve the quality of life in local communities.
Bačić emphasised that such projects enable towns and municipalities to develop and green their centres. He announced that the state would continue to invest in green urban infrastructure through European funds in the next financial period. Stričak described the project as an example of successful cooperation between the state, the county, and the towns.
During the visit, Bačić met with Varaždin Bishop Božo Radoš at the Pastoral Centre. They discussed property and legal issues important for the development of the Sanctuary of the Precious Blood of Christ. At a working meeting at the Town Administration, other development projects were presented — the construction of an intermodal station that would combine rail and bus transport, the remediation of landslides, and the development of state-owned land.
