Zagreb’s Upper Town hosts ČVENK, a new summer festival, until 26 July, bringing music, film, theatre, art and workshops across eight locations. The 17-day programme runs daily from 18:00 to midnight, with free entry to most events, reports Index.hr.
The festival takes its name from an old burgher word for a junction, and under the motto "Meeting City, Summer, People and Art" aims to revive hidden courtyards and old passages in this well-known part of the city.
One of the central venues is the atrium of the Tituš Brezovački Grammar School at 1 Habdelićeva Street, where the Museum of Contemporary Art is hosting an exhibition, workshops and film screenings, including "Warhol: The American Dream", "Loving Vincent" and "The Man Who Stole Banksy". Acoustic gigs and DJ sets await visitors in the garden of the Croatian Institute of History at 10 Opatička Street, while the plaza in front of Jelačić Palace at 7 Demetrova Street transforms into a stage for music, dance and street food.
At the Marija Jambrišak Student Dormitory, evenings of board games, an open chess club and pub quizzes are organised, while "wine and paint" workshops and pottery painting take place near Pop Tower and in the Archaeological Garden of the Zagreb City Museum. Vraz Promenade and Grič Park are also included in the programme, featuring poetry, concerts and DJ sets.
During five evenings, the atrium of Klovićevi Dvori Gallery offers theatre and music programmes and stand-up: the monodrama "I, Actress!" by Darija Lorenci Flatz, the comedy "Breakup Over the Phone" and Krleža’s "Ballads of Petrica Kerempuh" performed by Jan Kovačić.
Musical performers at the festival include Jan Lesić and David Pavlić, Duška Brčić Šušak, Kim Verson and The Vura. Tickets for paid events are available via the Entrio system.
