MOJ KRAJ. (“my area”) is a Croatian news portal bringing verified news from Croatia and the world — politics, business, sport, technology, culture and life. The portal is published by LumiVerse d.o.o. of Zagreb and edited by a small newsroom that cares more about a story being right than being first.
Where the idea came from
The portal grew out of two very different impulses. The first is a reader's: we are fed up with bombastic headlines that promise shock and deliver — nothing. When the click matters more than the information, even the most ordinary news gets packaged as drama. We wanted a portal whose headline says what happened, whose text backs it with a source, and stops there.
The second is professional curiosity. At LumiVerse we work with practical applications of artificial intelligence every day, so we wanted to know how far it can really go when the bar is set high: can AI run a newsroom more disciplined than the average — one that writes every article from facts, checks every claim against its source, and grades itself before publishing? MOJ KRAJ. is our answer in progress: a public experiment in which technology serves to raise standards rather than cut costs at the reader's expense — with clear rules and human oversight.
The “my area” in the name comes from the same thinking. Big media chase big stories, and most places in Croatia have no one covering them — machines, unlike newsrooms, don't have to pick only the profitable towns. That is why every town, island and county here has its own front page, with service notices and news from the neighbourhood.
How our articles are made
We work transparently: our articles are produced with the help of artificial intelligence, under human editorial oversight. The system monitors verified media sources and official institutional statements, and every article's text is written from scratch — we do not republish other people's texts. Strict rules apply: facts may come only from the cited source, quotes are never invented, and the source is named and linked on every article.
Before publication every article passes automated quality checks: readability and structure, groundedness (every claim is compared against the source) and neutrality (tone towards actors, balance of sources). Articles that fall short of the threshold are held for manual editorial review. The English edition is machine-translated from the Croatian original by the same local AI stack, with its own quality guards — and each translation links back to the original.
Images
Article illustrations are produced with our own AI tools and clearly labelled (“Illustration: AI”), or we use only images with a verified free licence and author attribution. We do not publish photorealistic depictions of real people or fabricated depictions of events.
Sponsored content
Some content on the portal may be sponsored. Such content is always clearly labelled “SPONSORED CONTENT” together with the partner's name, in line with the Croatian Electronic Media Act. Sponsored content is never mixed with the editorial selection of the front page.
