The fire broke out on Thursday, 16 July, around 13:00, in the attic of a family home in Ivanec, Varaždin County, the police reported. The house is owned by a 68-year-old man.
An investigation established that the cause was heat transfer from a metal flue to the wooden sheathing of the roof and the roof structure. The fire spread from there to the entire roof and the attic interior, which, according to the police, were completely destroyed.
Three volunteer fire brigades participated in the firefighting: DVD Ivanec, DVD Margečan, and DVD Bedenec. Their firefighters managed to extinguish the roof fire.
Material damage is estimated at tens of thousands of euros. The police report does not mention any injured persons, and the police informed the public about the circumstances of the fire after the completion of the investigation.
