A severe storm that struck Orahovica on the afternoon of Wednesday, 1 July, caused material damage in several locations across the town, despite its short duration. The most significant damage was recorded on the roof of the sports hall, where wind damaged part of the roofing structure, allowing rainwater to penetrate the building.
A joint operation by relevant services was launched immediately after the storm. Firefighters and employees of the municipal utility company were on site, while staff from the Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić Primary School and the Stjepan Ivšić Secondary School assisted in protecting the hall. Water was pumped out of the hall pending temporary repairs to the roof to prevent further damage, with work on the roof continuing into the evening.
The mayor, Milan Babac, visited the most affected locations. "Thank you to everyone who responded immediately and showed how much solidarity means in such situations," Babac said, announcing that the town would continue its site visits and removal of storm damage the following day wherever necessary.
Municipal utility employees cleared broken branches and trees that posed a danger to citizens, as well as cleaning roads and public spaces, throughout the afternoon and evening. The Town of Orahovica stated that, in cooperation with relevant services, it would take all measures to remove the consequences of the storm as soon as possible.
