A sudden deterioration in weather during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday triggered a series of maritime incidents in the Zadar area. Between 22:00 and 22:40, four reports were received, and there were no injuries, the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure reported.
The first report arrived at the National Central Coordination Centre for Search and Rescue at Sea (MRCC Rijeka) at 22:00, concerning a boat that had run aground near Petrčane. Nine minutes later, via the county 112 centre, a report was received about a sailboat stranded along the coast of Prince Trpimir in Zadar. Port authority officials at the scene found the vessel stranded on its port side in the shallow waters of a bay. Its two-person crew, French nationals, emerged unharmed, and the Zadar Port Authority ordered commercial towing of the sailboat.
Almost simultaneously, at 22:10, a catamaran struck a town bridge in Pag. There were no injuries in this incident either, and the damage from the collision is being assessed on Wednesday. At 22:40, a report arrived of a ship that had run aground near Privlaka, for which a tugboat was deployed.
The Ministry stated that the reports were received at MRCC Rijeka and forwarded to the Zadar Port Authority, whose staff, along with its branches, undertook rescue operations for the vessels and crews. During the night into the early morning hours, minor maritime accidents were also recorded in the Zadar area, which vessel owners resolved independently or with commercial services.
