A personal car carrying five Danish nationals crashed off the road near the Plitvice Lakes on Friday afternoon and was left hanging over a precipice. Two children were airlifted to Rijeka University Hospital (KBC Rijeka), where it was confirmed they were not seriously injured, the Novi list reports, citing Croatian Radiotelevision (HRT).
Firefighters, police, emergency medical teams, and the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service (HGSS) participated in the complex rescue operation, successfully extracting the vehicle.
Ten rescuers with three vehicles were dispatched from the HGSS Gospić station to the scene. Station chief Dario Cindrić stated that firefighters from Korenica and emergency teams from Gospić and Plitvice had already completed the bulk of the work before their arrival, with mountain rescuers assisting in securing the vehicle and transporting patients.
Rijeka University Hospital also commented on the condition of the admitted patient. Dr Bedenik, a duty doctor at the Clinic for Paediatric Surgery, stated that one person involved in the accident had been admitted for treatment and that all necessary diagnostic and therapeutic procedures had been carried out.
