An extensive search is underway in the Okunšćak area of the Rugvica municipality, east of Zagreb, for three foreign nationals who disappeared in the Sava River on Sunday afternoon.
According to available information, the men entered the river around 16:00, after which they disappeared without a trace, Zagreb.info reports.
No further details are currently available regarding the identities of the missing persons or the circumstances of their disappearance. Personnel from the Rugvica Volunteer Fire Department (Dobrovoljno vatrogasno društvo Rugvica), police, and other emergency services are on the scene, searching the riverbanks and the Sava's riverbed. The Croatian Mountain Rescue Service (Hrvatska gorska služba spašavanja) is also participating in the search, Zagorje.com reports.
The Rugvica Volunteer Fire Department has issued an appeal to residents who were in the area on Sunday to come forward if they noticed anything significant. "We ask all citizens who have seen them or have any information that could assist in the search to contact us on the number or inform the police at 192, Centre 112. Every piece of information can be of great help," the department stated.
The Sava is extremely demanding in certain sections due to strong river currents, sudden changes in depth, and poor visibility below the surface, which is why authorities regularly warn against caution when staying in or near the river.
The search for the three men continues, with more information expected after the completion of the on-site investigation and further activities by rescue services.
