Nearly 1,000 residents are expected to move into Building A11 in Zagreb’s Podbrežje district next year, which contains 288 apartments, Deputy Mayor Luka Korlaet told Hina.
This marks the first major wave of move-ins under the city’s public rental programme. In the same neighbourhood, Building A2 with 150 apartments is under construction, with move-ins expected in around three years. Meanwhile, 600 units are planned in Borovo and around 100 in Sveta Klara.
In total, the city’s housing stock is set to grow by approximately 1,200 apartments over the next five years, potentially accommodating around 3,600 people. The city currently manages a stock of around 6,500 apartments.
Interest significantly exceeds supply: 1,500 households have applied for social rental housing, and 1,150 for affordable rental housing.
Alongside the apartments, supporting infrastructure is being developed. A new kindergarten has opened in Podbrežje, while the primary school is in the design phase. In Borovo, the kindergarten is complete, and the extension of the primary school is underway.
