Police officers arrested a 33-year-old Serbian national suspected of transporting foreign citizens who had illegally crossed the Croatian border in exchange for payment, the Sisak-Moslavina County Police announced.
The vehicle was stopped in the early hours of Friday, 17 July, around half an hour past midnight. A criminal investigation was conducted against the suspect on suspicion of the criminal offence of unlawful entry, movement and stay in the Republic of Croatia, another EU member state or a signatory to the Schengen Agreement.
The investigation established that the 33-year-old man had transported foreign citizens to their final destination for profit, for a pre-arranged monetary amount. Following the completion of the investigation, he was handed over to the detention supervisor along with a criminal complaint.
It was determined that the foreign citizens found in the vehicle had crossed the state border illegally, and proceedings against them are being conducted in accordance with the Foreigners Act.
Police stated that officers tasked with combating migrant smuggling in the Sisak-Moslavina County are continuously working to prevent illegal migration, and this is the latest in a series of similar cases uncovered in the area.
