Former Croatian national football team player Dario Šimić was arrested on Monday morning in an anti-corruption operation by the Croatian Office for the Suppression of Corruption and Organised Crime (USKOK) and the police, and was brought to USKOK premises in Zagreb in handcuffs for questioning in the afternoon, N1 reported.
Alongside Šimić, Neda Livljanić, a former official at the Šibenik-Knin County administration, and entrepreneur Marin Mikšić from Vodice, whom investigators suspect acted as an intermediary, were also arrested.
Investigators suspect that Šimić, through Livljanić, illegally obtained permits for a campsite in Tisno on the island of Murter. According to unofficial information relayed by N1, Livljanić issued Šimić a decision to provide catering services in a household, categorised as a household campsite, even though the plots where the campsite was located did not meet the necessary spatial conditions. Part of the plots reportedly lay outside the building zone, and the disputed decisions were issued during 2020 and 2021.
Mikšić is the long-standing president of NK Vodice, and previously held the positions of deputy mayor of Vodice and president of the local Municipal Council, Morski.hr reports.
The questioning of the suspects is underway at USKOK premises in Zagreb, and details of the operation have not yet been officially released.
