Due to the discharge at the Bumbište site, Medulin municipality head Ivan Kirac has filed complaints with the State Inspectorate, the Port Captaincy, and Vodovod Pula-Labin, and lodged a criminal complaint on suspicion of an environmental offence, Glas Istre reports.
The municipality head is also demanding an urgent inspection to determine how the discharge occurred and who is responsible.
The municipality has stated that the discharge has not yet been fully stopped and that remediation is not progressing at the expected pace. They added that, despite inquiries, they have not yet received new information from the relevant authorities regarding further steps.
The municipality emphasises that it is neither the investor nor the client for the construction of the new Bumbište discharge point and wastewater treatment plant. That role belongs to Vodovod Pula-Labin (Pula-Labin Water Supply), which manages the system and is responsible for organising the remediation.
Analysis of the sea at Centinera beach showed good water quality, but beaches in the area remain closed for now, in line with the recommendation of the Institute of Public Health of Istria County, because the discharge has not been completely stopped.
Sampling and sea analysis will continue until the discharge ceases and the situation stabilises, after which a decision will be made on the reopening of the beaches.
