Parts of Croatia were struck by severe weather yesterday, leaving visible impacts on the ground. Following a period of heat, the change in weather conditions brought slight cooling and more comfortable temperatures for residents. Despite the temporary improvement in conditions, unstable weather is forecast for the rest of the week, affecting various parts of the country.
Severe weather accompanied by thunderstorms is expected for the coastal area. Official warnings for such conditions along the coast have been issued by the Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Survey (DHMZ). For Monday, meteorologists forecast partly sunny weather with variable cloud cover and instability, particularly in the western parts of the country.
Rain and showers with thunderstorms are expected in places, with the western areas being the most exposed. Showers with thunderstorms are also expected in the afternoon in the Dalmatian hinterland. Along with the weather changes, temperatures will rise again and exceed 30 degrees Celsius, returning to warmer conditions after yesterday's cooling.
In the early hours, at 7.04 local time, a minor earthquake was recorded near Sisak. According to data from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the epicentre was located four kilometres southwest of the town. The earthquake had a magnitude of 2.6 on the Richter scale and occurred at a depth of five kilometres.
Although the earthquake was weak, many citizens felt the ground shaking. Testimonies indicate that people first heard a sound, then felt a strong thud that shook houses. Beams on roofs creaked due to vibrations, further confirming the intensity of the earthquake's impact in that part of the country.
