A large fire that broke out on Tuesday afternoon in a hall of MEC d.o.o., a company for the production and storage of packaging in Pribislavca, was extinguished on Wednesday at 4.40. The intervention, which lasted almost 12 hours, involved 170 firefighters with 51 vehicles.
The Public Fire Department Čakovec received the report of the fire on Tuesday at 16.09. The fire engulfed large quantities of plastic, paint and solvents in the storage space, and it was extinguished not only by the professional firefighters from Čakovec but also by 27 volunteer fire departments from the Međimurje County.
Several workers from the company and three firefighters were examined due to smoke inhalation. The fire was localised during the night, and after extinguishing, the site was rehabilitated.
"It was an extremely difficult intervention in which large quantities of paint, solvents and plastic were burning. Thanks to the quick reaction of both volunteer and professional firefighters and the correct decisions of the incident commander, the fire was brought under control and greater material damage was prevented," said Chief Fire Commander Slavko Tucaković and praised all participants in the intervention.
According to the eMeđimurje portal, the damage is measured in millions according to initial estimates, and heavy consequences are visible at the plant a day after the fire.
