A lightning strike ignited a pine forest in the Osejava area above Makarska on Tuesday evening. Firefighters swiftly extinguished the fire and prevented its spread, ensuring that residential properties were not threatened, N1 reported.
"A lightning bolt struck the pine forest, causing it to catch fire. Firefighters rushed to the scene and put out the flames," the Makarska Volunteer Fire Department (DVD Makarska) told Hina, noting that the fire did not last long.
The storm also affected the Dalmatian Hinterland and the central Dalmatian islands during the evening, with intermittent lightning, thunder and rain recorded. According to initial findings by firefighters, there were no casualties or damage in those areas.
In Stari Grad on Hvar, seawater briefly overflowed onto the promenade due to a meteotsunami, a sudden rise in sea level. Local firefighters stated that intervention was not required, as such sea overflow is a common occurrence on the islands.
