The fire that broke out on Thursday evening at a silo belonging to a company in Štefanec, near Čakovec, has been successfully extinguished. Firefighters prevented the spread of the blaze to other parts of the plant through a rapid response, eMeđimurje reported.
Firefighters from the Štefanec Volunteer Fire Department, Pribislavec Volunteer Fire Department, Ivanovec Volunteer Fire Department, and the Čakovec Public Fire Department responded to the incident. According to on-site information, the fire was confined to the silo alone, with no significant damage reported to other company buildings. The installation of an automatic suppression system also aided in extinguishing the fire.
According to initial, officially unconfirmed reports, workers heard an explosion before the fire broke out. Međimurske novine reported that the silo belongs to PIB extra.
The company manufactures moulds, including those made of plastic and wood. Due to flammable materials in the production process, a swift response was crucial to prevent the fire from spreading to the rest of the plant.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown and will be determined following an official report from the relevant authorities. There are no reports of injuries.
This is the second fire at Međimurje production facilities in two days: a major fire broke out the previous day at a factory in nearby Pribislavec, whose firefighters also assisted in extinguishing the blaze in Štefanec.
