Water prices on Rab rise by 6% from 1 July with new sewage subsidy

The town of Rab is introducing a subsidy of 20 euros per pumping for sewage removal, the cost of which has more than doubled, alongside the price hike.

Water service prices on Rab and the wider service area will increase by six per cent from 1 July. The new tariff was adopted on 29 June by the Assembly of Vodovod Hrvatsko primorje (Croatian Coast Water Supply), at the proposal of the company's Management Board.

The price increase covers the entire service area of 28 — the towns of Rab, Pag and Senj, and the municipalities of Karlobag, Lopar, Povljana and Kolan. In Novalja, according to an announcement by the Town of Rab, an increase of 27 per cent is expected.

The fixed part of the water supply price rises from 5.50 to 5.60 euros per month, while households will pay 1.00 euro per cubic metre of water instead of the previous 0.80. For the business sector, the price per cubic metre rises from 1.20 to 1.40 euros. The largest jump is recorded in the pumping and removal of sewage from individual tanks, rising from 47.98 to 99.44 euros.

For this service specifically, the Town of Rab has introduced a subsidy of 20 euros for each completed pumping, meaning end users will pay 79.44 euros. "With funds from the development surcharge, we continue with intensive investments in water infrastructure, thereby ensuring the stability of the system with the primary goal of long-term protection of end consumers," said Mayor Nikola Grgurić.

Vodovod stated that the tariff is aligned with the recommendation of the Council for Water Services and the prescribed methodology, and that the decision was also influenced by the rising costs of maintaining the existing network. Two rounds of public consultation were held prior to adoption, from 15 April to 15 May and from 27 May to 12 June, during which consumers could submit comments on the proposal.

Funds collected through the development surcharge have previously been invested in the parallel transport pipeline Hrmotine – PK Lokve, two projects in the town of Rab, and one in the municipality of Lopar. Four further projects are announced for this year, along with the preparation of documentation for the agglomeration of Rab, Supetarska Draga and Lopar.
