The Lika-Senj County Assembly has adopted a draft decision at its last sitting to include the development of wind energy in the preparation of the 10th amendments and additions to the County Spatial Plan. The process will define zones for the construction of wind farms and areas for wind potential exploration, reports Lika Club.

The areas under consideration include seven local self-government units: the cities of Gospić and Otočac and the municipalities of Brinje, Perušić, Vrhovine, Udbina and Plitvička Jezera.

According to the text of the decision, the spatial plan must include provisions for implementation and zones for wind farm construction, as well as spaces for wind potential exploration. The decision also provides for the definition of rules for the installation of axial and vertical, so-called spinal, wind turbines in the county.

The adoption of the decision does not mean that construction will begin soon at the aforementioned locations. It is the first step in spatial planning, which will only determine possible locations and conditions for the development of such projects.

Which zones will ultimately be included in the spatial plan will be shown by the continuation of the amendment and addition process, in which provisions for implementation are elaborated in more detail for individual cities and municipalities.
