A contract for the construction of the Vid–Nova Sela connector road was signed in Metković on Sunday. The project, valued at almost €14 million, is one of the most significant transport developments for the Neretva valley. Funding is provided by the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure.
The new road will be 7.6km long. It will connect the settlement of Vid, within the City of Metković, with the D62 state road in Nova Sela, in the Municipality of Kula Norinska. In Vid, it will join the Ž6218 county road via a three-way junction. At the junction with the state road in Nova Sela, a roundabout with improved access roads is planned.
The project is being implemented by the Dubrovnik-Neretva County Road Administration. The aim is to establish a road corridor foreseen in the county spatial plan. The contract with the contractor, Patrlji, was signed by the Administration’s director, Ivo Kaštelan, according to Slobodna Dalmacija. County Prefect Blaž Pezo and Metković Mayor Dalibor Milan attended the signing.
Prefect Pezo stated that the project brings "a new transport impetus that opens up new opportunities for this region", Slobodna Dalmacija reports.
The City of Metković highlights that the new road will shorten travel time from Metković to the north-western part of the county. It will also improve connectivity with the future A1 motorway interchange. The project is expected to enhance road safety and provide better links between local settlements and the state road network.
