The City of Labin has received an additional €199,134 in grant funding for the remediation and closure of the Cere landfill. The new decision was made by the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund, marking one of the most significant environmental interventions in the Labin region.
The project had previously secured €1,692,638 in grant funding from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NPOO). With the Fund's new decision, total support rises to nearly €1.9 million. The additional funds were approved following a public procurement process and the signing of a contract with the contractor, aligning the financing with the agreed value of the works.
Cere is a landfill for non-hazardous waste. The remediation involves reorganising the waste into a stable landfill body and constructing a final cover layer. A degassing system with a flare is also being built, along with drainage improvements. Finally, the area of approximately two hectares will be landscaped.
Works are underway. Gabion retaining walls are being installed on site to stabilise the terrain and prepare the landfill for the continuation of remediation.
The project is jointly implemented by the City of Labin and the municipal company 1. maj, with the works carried out by Opera group. Completion is planned by the end of the year. The City states that Cere will become a safe green space after closure, posing fewer risks to the environment and improving living conditions in the Labin region.
