Metković is to receive a secondary music school: on Friday, 10 July, an agreement on the co-financing of the school’s construction, worth up to two million euros, was signed in the premises of the City of Metković, the City of Metković announced.
The agreement was signed by the Minister of Regional Development and European Union Funds, Nataša Mikuš Žigman, and the Dubrovnik-Neretva County Prefect, Blažo Pezo. Deputy Prime Minister Branko Bačić and the Mayor of Metković, Dalibor Milan, also attended the ceremony.
The project is co-financed from the state budget through the capital project Regional Development Projects. In the 2026 budget, 300 thousand euros have been secured. In 2027, one million euros will follow, and in 2028, an additional 700 thousand euros. The Government has previously created the prerequisites for the project, and a public tender for the selection of the contractor is expected in the next period.
Deputy Prime Minister Bačić stated that the signing of the agreement fulfils a long-standing promise that Metković would receive a secondary music school. He expressed hope that the new building would enable higher-quality music education for young people from across the county.
Minister Mikuš Žigman assessed that this is an important project for Metković and the Neretva valley. The new school, she said, would support the education of students and the development of talented young musicians. Prefect Pezo emphasised that the County, as the project holder, would participate in its implementation. Investments in education, he added, are among the County’s priorities.
Mayor Milan stated that the decision represents an investment in the future of children and young people. It achieves, he said, a long-standing goal: the possibility of continuing music education in their own town.
On the same day, the Minister also handed over other co-financing agreements to the leaders of the cities and municipalities of Dubrovnik-Neretva County. These were approved through public calls of the Ministry of Regional Development and European Union Funds.
