Accounts of 194,100 citizens were blocked at the end of June due to unpaid obligations, and the principal of their debt amounted to 3.1 billion euros, the Financial Agency (Fina) announced on Monday. When the principal is added to interest of 1.2 billion euros, the total unpaid debt of citizens rises to 4.28 billion euros.
The number of blocked citizens has slightly decreased: it is 0.3 per cent lower than in May and 0.4 per cent lower than a year ago. The principal of the debt, however, fell by 0.1 per cent on a monthly basis, but is 5.4 per cent higher compared to June 2025.
The largest portion of the debt is owed by citizens to the central state, which accounts for 37 per cent of the total amount. The debt to banks amounted to 631.4 million euros without interest, or 20.6 per cent of the total debt, while all financial institutions combined account for 23.2 per cent, or 708.6 million euros.
Among business entities, the trend is opposite. At the end of June, 13,876 had unpaid payment bases, which is 0.8 per cent more than in May and 11.9 per cent more than a year earlier. The principal of their debt, at 437.7 million euros, rose by three per cent on a monthly basis, but is 39.1 per cent lower compared to June 2025. With interest of 108 million euros, the total debt of business entities reaches 545.7 million euros.
Of the blocked business entities, 6,072 are legal entities, accounting for 297.7 million euros or 68 per cent of the amount, while 7,804 natural persons with registered activities owe 140.1 million euros.
By sector, the most blocked are in construction (2,801), trade (1,796), accommodation and food service activities (1,698), manufacturing (1,243) and transport and storage (1,191), Fina reports.
