Igor Šeregi's film 'Wedding' opened the 73rd Pula Film Festival in the Pula Arena on Thursday evening. The domestic hit, which has just passed the figure of 800 thousand viewers in Croatian cinemas, introduced the audience to this year's edition of the country's oldest national film festival.
11 films will be shown in the Croatian competitive programme, and 18 in total with minority co-productions from neighbouring countries. Two days of the festival are dedicated to animated film.
The jury, comprising Vinko Brešan, Hrvoslava Brkušić, Tina Hajon, Tanja Lacko and Ivan Ramljak, will decide on the awards. Danijel Pek is the artistic director of the festival, Vlatka Kolarović the director, and Mario Kozina the programme selector.
The festival will pay tribute to screenwriter and director Zrinko Ogresta, who passed away ahead of this year's edition.
A special screening is planned for the finale: a restored copy of Vinko Brešan's 'How the War Started on My Island', marking the 30th anniversary of its premiere.
