Students from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Rijeka (Tehnički fakultet Sveučilišta u Rijeci) took first place in the artificial intelligence category at the international Monaco Energy Boat Challenge, reports Rijeka Danas. Their vessel, Adria Autonomous Boat, won with a maximum of 1800 points against ten competing teams.
The Rijeka students were best in all disciplines of the category: AI Docking, AI Fleet, AI Figure 8 and AI Slalom. In the Energy category, in which the vessel Adria Racing competed, the team took fourth place among 21 teams.
The competition, organised by the Yacht Club de Monaco, brings together student teams from around the world who develop sustainable, energy-efficient and autonomous vessels. For the Rijeka team, which competes through the Association of Applied Technical Sciences (Udruga primijenjenih tehničkih znanosti - UPTZ), this was their sixth participation.
In addition to students from the Faculty of Engineering, the project involved students from the Maritime Faculty and the Academy of Applied Arts, as well as pupils from the Salesian Classical Gymnasium and the technical school. Some members operate as part of the RAST (Riteh Autonomous Systems Team), whose maritime section focuses on the development of autonomous maritime systems.
The team was led by mentors Ljubomir Pozder, head of UPTZ, Professor Kristijan Lenac from the Faculty of Engineering, and Jakov Mozetič from industry.
