Prime Minister Andrej Plenković met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv on Wednesday and assured that the Croatian Government will continue to strongly support Ukraine. This marks his sixth visit to the Ukrainian capital since the start of the Russian invasion in 2022, reports Novi list.
Ukraine, the prime minister noted in a post on social media platform X, has been defending its own freedom and the security of the entire continent for four and a half years by resisting Russian aggression.
Croatia, he announced, will continue to share experiences from the Homeland War alongside political, economic, energy and military support for Ukraine. This includes humanitarian demining, the prosecution of war crimes, care for war veterans and the peaceful reintegration of occupied territories.
"We are also focusing on further intensifying cooperation between the Croatian and Ukrainian defence industries," Plenković wrote.
The two leaders also discussed additional European Union sanctions to increase pressure on Russia, international efforts to achieve peace, and security guarantees for Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire agreement.
Plenković congratulated Zelensky on the opening of the first two negotiation clusters in the EU accession talks. "We believe Ukraine deserves a clear European perspective and we will jointly insist on this," he said.
The prime minister arrived in Kyiv earlier in the day and also participated in the observance of Ukraine’s Statehood Day and the fifth Ukraine–South East Europe summit.
