The European Parliament stated on Sunday that Serbia's progress on the path to membership in the European Union depends on reforms in the field of the rule of law and respect for democratic standards, and that the country must normalise its relations with Kosovo, Index.hr reports.
"Serbia must show genuine commitment to EU values. Progress towards EU membership is possible only through reforms in the field of the rule of law and strengthening democratic standards. Serbia must normalise its relations with Kosovo," the Parliament posted on the social media platform X.
The same post notes that free and fair elections are necessary to resolve the political crisis in the country.
Alongside the message, a graphic with basic data about Serbia was published. It recalls that Serbia has been an official candidate for membership in the European Union since 2012, has a population of around 6.6 million, and its gross domestic product per capita is 13,526 euros.
