US federal authorities arrested brothers Andrew and Tristan Tate in Miami on Saturday after British prosecutors brought new charges against them and the UK requested their extradition, according to reports by the Guardian and BBC.
The UK Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) announced that Andrew Tate (39) is charged with seven new rapes, three counts of organising or facilitating human trafficking for sexual exploitation, three assaults occasioning actual bodily harm, and 19 additional charges related to indecent images of children and extreme pornography.
His brother Tristan is charged with one count of sexual assault, two counts of rape, and three counts of organising or facilitating human trafficking for sexual exploitation. According to the prosecution, the offences took place between July 2010 and August 2017.
"These charging decisions followed the receipt of a new file of evidence from Bedfordshire Police, bringing the total number of alleged victims in this case to seven," said Malcolm McHaffie, head of the CPS Special Crime Division.
The arrest was confirmed by US federal marshals to the BBC, while a spokesperson for the US Department of Justice stated it was carried out as part of extradition proceedings. The CPS confirmed it had requested the extradition of the brothers from the US, who hold dual British-American citizenship.
Brothers Tate's lawyer, Joseph McBride, stated after the arrest that "the world knows Andrew and Tristan are innocent," describing the new charges as a political vendetta. He also claimed they were brought to thwart a defamation lawsuit the brothers filed in the US.
The Tate brothers, known for their millions of social media followers, were previously charged in the UK: in May 2025, prosecutors confirmed a list of 21 charges, including rape, assault, and human trafficking. In June, the brothers lost a court case in which they sought to uncover the identities of the prosecutors.
Proceedings are also ongoing against them in Romania since December 2022, where they are accused of human trafficking, rape, and forming a criminal organisation. The brothers have so far denied all allegations.
