Defence lawyer Ljubo Pavasović Visković stated on Thursday that the search of the Croatian Olympic Committee (HOO) Secretary-General Siniša Krajač's home was a standard police procedure within the framework of an investigation. Although Krajač was the subject of the search, he was not arrested as there is currently no suspicion that he would commit a criminal offence.
Pavasović Visković explained that the Specialised National Anti-Corruption Department (USKOK) often conducts searches of apartments when there is no direct evidence against a specific person, but there are indications that relevant material evidence could be found there. Such searches are very common and often serve to collect evidence against that person or a third party.
As part of the USKOK operation, Croatian Olympic Committee (HOO) Director Damir Šegota and his wife were arrested, while Siniša Krajač's home was searched. The lawyer emphasised that there is currently no suspicion against Krajač that he would commit a criminal offence, which is the reason he was not detained.
Pavasović Visković appeared on the NTV News programme where he also spoke about the former Secretary-General of the Croatian Ski Association (HSS), Damir Raos. He believes that his additional questioning likely provided certain benefits to USKOK in gathering information related to the investigation.
He also commented on the former spokesperson for the Croatian Ski Association (HSS), Nenad Eror, who was previously arrested but released on bail in connection with irregularities within the association. There is no new information regarding Eror's case, and his defence was presented at the beginning of the proceedings.
